Ministry of Detainees’: Field executions of Palestinian detainees is a heinous crime that contradicts all international conventions

The Ministry of Detainees’ stated that the occupation is following a policy of field execution against Palestinian prisoners, which reflects the extent of the moral decadence that the occupation has reached through its heinous crimes that contradict all international covenants and treaties.

A meeting was organized by the ministry in cooperation with the Independent Commission for Human Rights in the ministry hall on Wednesday, 8^th December, entitled "Field Execution of detainees is a War Crime", in the presence of legal figures from the national and Islamic action factions and the families detainees.

Saber Abu Karsh, Director- General of Public Relations and Media, explained that executing detainees is a method followed by the occupation, noting that in recent years the occupation army has carried out a relatively large number of field executions against Palestinians, the latest of which was the execution of the young Muhammad Shawkat Salima (25 years).

He called on international and humanitarian institutions to compel the occupation to respect international humanitarian law, which prohibits the execution, assassination or harm of war prisoners in times of conflict, and to consider field executions of prisoners as war crimes against humanity. He also stressed that the occupation have to bear legal responsibility as the occupying country that violates the obligations of international humanitarian law.

In turn, Jamil Sarhan, Vice-President of the Independent Commission for Human Rights, considered the extrajudicial executions carried out by the occupation army a clear violation of Fourth International Treaty on the Laws and Customs of War at The Hague, which stipulated respect for the right to life, non-killing and treating the wounded.
